DESCRIPTION

The Chan Zuckerberg Biohub is a new, independent research center that will serve as a nexus for collaborations between experts across multiple disciplines—including engineers, computer scientists, biologists and chemists and other innovators—to work together on some of the most pressing scientific questions of today. 

Our goal is to accelerate basic science research to help cure, prevent or manage all diseases by the end of the century.

We formed in partnership with Stanford University, University of California, San Francisco and University of California, Berkeley, and are led by renowned scientists Joe Derisi and Stephen Quake.

The Role

The Single Cell Genomics (SCG) Platform Leader will be central to the mission of the CZ Biohub. S/he will lead the platform with an emphasis on providing single cell sequencing and related technologies to the Biohub and its collaborators. The SCG Platform Leader will have experience managing and implementing large scale sequencing projects and will have a track record in collaborative scientific research and innovation. This person will provide technology vision and leadership in the development and implementation of emerging genomic technologies. The successful candidate will help plan and implement specific strategies to support ambitious projects undertaken by the hub and its collaborators.

Additionally, the SGC Platform Leader will:

  • Manage, maintain and facilitate access to the Biohub Sequencing Infrastructure.
  • Help Biohub scientists and their collaborators make effective use of cutting edge genomics technologies on various projects. These projects are expected ultimately to include cellular, patient, and population data at all scales.
  • Provide access to new and emerging single cell sequencing technologies for both small and large scale projects.
  • Design, develop and implement scalable workflow processes and operating procedures such that the SCG platform can be effectively utilized by Biohub scientists, CZ Biohub Investigators, and other collaborative faculty.
  • Participate in collaborative research with institute scientists to design and execute single cell sequencing experiments. Assist the Biohub and its collaborators in making appropriate technology choices in a project-dependent manner.
  • Collaboratively publish scientific results.
  • Provide strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation, and coordination of new equipment acquisitions.
  • Facilitate communication between scientists, staff, management, vendors, and other technology resources within the organization with regards to genomics, and the opportunities to apply genomic and sequencing technologies broadly.
  • Able to create an innovative technology vision for the organization by understanding strengths, weaknesses and opportunities.
