The Sales Manager, Custom Synthesis is leading our Custom Synthesis sales team. The Manager is responsible for the sales of custom synthesis services to customers in academia and in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. The Sales Manager, Custom Synthesis is responsible for planning and executing sales activities to meet established goals for the Custom Synthesis business.  The Sales Manager, Custom Synthesis will be leading a team of Research Sales Representatives and Technical Sales Specialists through motivation, encouragement and leadership.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Master’s in Chemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutical or Life Sciences
  • 3-5 years sales experience in the Pharma or Life Science industry
  • Ability to travel to tradeshows and customer visits as required (less than 20%)
  • Positive presentation style
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office
  • Ability to effectively organize, multitask, and work in a fast-paced, deadline driven work environment
  • Positive and determined attitude with the ability to communicate in a proactive and solution-focused manner, including keeping management aware of potential issues
  • Detail oriented with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical and analytical problems
  • Ability to work independently and manage one’s time
  • Communicate effectively and ability to function well in a team environment with a multicultural/ multinational team

Preferred:

  • PhD Degree in Science related field
  • Previous Project Management and/or Leadership experience
  • Familiar with Peptide manufacturing or Sales of Custom synthesis services
  • Salesforce and/or SAP experience

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accomplish Custom Synthesis sales objectives by developing, and maintaining a robust pipeline of new opportunities
  • Present applicable company capabilities as benefits to prospective customers and provide pre-sales technical assistance to customers
  • Address requests for Custom Synthesis services, follow up with customers on potential orders and close the sale
  • Address all customer inquiries relating to scientific information, research chemicals application recommendation and technical usage of products
  • Participate in strategic cost/price analysis for new projects and evaluate manufacturing strategies as required
  • Build and promote strong, long-lasting customer relationships by partnering with them and understanding their needs
  • Develop growth strategies by understanding Bachem custom synthesis products and capabilities and leveraging them to gain market share
  • Provides management with sales reports, potential solutions, market based pricing recommendations, action plans and sales budgets
  • Actively communicates with Bachem manufacturing, quality and supply chain to facilitate ongoing projects; and ensure that deliverables, timelines, quality standards and customer expectations are met
  • Monitor competitive activities and trends
  • Present at technical seminars about Bachem’s research chemicals products and custom synthesis services to clients
  • Manage, develop, coach, control and motivate the sales force to develop their skills to ensure that a high professional standard is achieved and monthly sales targets and KPI targets are met
  • Oversee recruiting, objectives setting, and performance monitoring of the Research Sales Representatives and Technical Sales Specialists
  • Maintain and update all customer related information and relevant communications in the ERP and CRM systems
  • Works with internal and external stakeholders to resolve customer complaints and issues.  
  • Analyze trends, identify service gaps and implement solutions
  • Attend critical scientific meetings, conferences and customer visits as required to support Bachem sales and marketing efforts

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the employee to regularly stand for 1 to 2 hours a day, and to regularly walk, sit, talk or hear. The employee must also be capable of writing, using a computer keyboard, telephone and related office equipment.  The ability to lift up to 25 lbs. is also required.  The employee must be able to move throughout all buildings unrestricted.
