Amgen's Attribute Sciences group within Process Development is seeking an Associate Scientist for a position based at their Thousand Oaks, CA site. The successful applicant to this largely laboratory-based position will be responsible for effectively partnering across the network on the strategy, execution, analysis and communication of extractable and leachable studies. Included responsibility for this position involves driving investigational work. The applicant will need to understand and apply state of the art analytical technology for assessing and identifying unexpected materials (e.g. organic, inorganic, and biological in nature) that arise during, and/or influence process development, clinical, and commercial manufacturing operations and final drug products. In addition, the ability to lead/drive root cause analysis and communicate scientific results with internal and external partners across a global network is required.
*Master's degree and 2 years of Scientific experience
*OR Bachelor's degree and 4 years of Scientific experience
*Small molecule structural elucidation background using LC/MS, GC/MS and NMR.
*Excellent written and oral communication skills for the timely documentation, presentation, and discussion of scientific results in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, team-based environment.
*Demonstrated ability to critically analyze and interrogate various analytical data sets to drive and influence the investigational process
*Strong demonstrated ability on approaches for root cause analysis
*Demonstrated ability to propose and lead new scientific imperatives/initiatives
*Experience in an investigational laboratory setting within a pharmaceutical or biotechnology company
*Strong understanding and experience on wet chemistry and sample handling
*Strong understanding and hands-on experience across a range of chromatographic (e.g. HPLC) and spectroscopic (e.g. vibrational, chemometrics, MS) tools
*Experience in working closely with scientific and manufacturing disciplines across process development, clinical, and commercial operations
