MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Carry out studies essential for developing and analyzing formulations for DURECT’s delivery systems 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze novel drug products for potency and degradation products using HPLC instrumentation
  • Develop and validate HPLC analytical methods for drug release, potency, and degradation products
  • Study the release of drugs from DURECT delivery systems
  • Assist in preparing various dosage forms including solution, suspension, and parenteral formulations
  • Write technical reports and submit invention records

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Knowledge/Education

  • Research Associate 2 Level must have a BS degree in Chemistry or related field; Scientist Level preferable to have MS degree in chemistry or related field.
  • Experienced working in a GMP laboratory environment and proper documentation skill HPLC method development and validation for assay and impurities

Job Experience

  • RA2 = 2+ years experience; Scientist = 7+ years

Skills/Competencies

  • Computer literate, including demonstrated ability operating HPLC instruments
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Skilled in development and analysis of various pharmaceutical dosage forms

Essential Job Functions

  • Ability to use of both hands for extended periods of time while performing regular tasks
  • Ability to lift, move and handle materials weighing up to 25 lbs unassisted
  • Ability to compute scientific formulas and measurements
  • Ability to use all required PPE

Working Conditions

  • Will be required to work in the analytical laboratory for up to 75% of work time on average
  • May work with potent drug molecules and hazardous chemicals
  • Will be required to wear laboratory safety devices during working in the laboratory such as respirator or mask for potent molecules
  • Must follow all the safety rules and guidance from Durect’s EH&S group
  • Will work extensively with personal computers
