GLENVIEW, Ill., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ) announces PacifiCare Behavioral Health's Jon Beaty, LCSW CPHQ and Christy L. Beaudin, PhD LCSW CPHQ FNAHQ, as the Journal for Healthcare Quality (JHQ) 2005 Golden Pen Award recipients. An official presentation was scheduled during the NAHQ 30th Annual Educational Conference to be held in New Orleans, La., September 17 - 20, 2005. The conference was canceled as a result of Hurricane Katrina.
The Golden Pen Awards recognize NAHQ members who demonstrate excellence in writing for the organizations publication JHQ, a publication that is read by healthcare quality professionals nationwide and internationally. Beaty and Beaudin received the Golden Pen Award for their article, "Using the Quality Improvement Committee to Establish Accountability and Yield Results." The article appeared in the September/October 2004 issue of JHQ.
"The Golden Pen Awards recognize people who demonstrate real ideas and solutions that healthcare professionals can apply to their jobs," said Luc R. Pelletier, editor in chief of the journal. "The article by Beaty and Beaudin provide real solutions on how healthcare organizations can respond more effectively and efficiently to the needs of consumers and customers."
Golden Pen Award panel members reviewed articles published in the JHQ in 2004. Selection criteria for the award includes assessing how an article provides reproducible solutions and practical strategies that professionals can apply to their jobs.

Beaty is the corporate manager for quality improvement at PacifiCare Behavioral Health. He received his bachelor and master degrees from Walla Walla College, College Place, Wash. Beaty has served on various committees and panels through NAHQ to benefit the advancement of healthcare quality. He had a previous publication in JHQ in 2003. Beaudin is corporate director of quality improvement for PacifiCare Behavioral Health. She earned a doctorate from UCLA, masters degree from San Diego State University and a bachelors degree from California State University San Bernardino. Dr. Beaudin has more than 15 years experience as a healthcare quality professional, having served at the vice president level and has worked extensively as a consultant, health services researcher and clinician.
