Health Alliance Plan Receives Approval From CMS To Offer Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plans In 2006

DETROIT, Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Michigan seniors and employers seeking affordable health benefits for their retirees will have more choices in Medicare coverage in 2006. Health Alliance Plan received approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to offer Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plans.

Marketing and enrollment activities will begin in October 2005. Medicare- eligible individuals may begin enrolling in them on November 15, 2005. The new Part D prescription drug benefits will go into effect on January 1, 2006.

HAP Senior Plus, a Medicare Advantage Plan, combines the benefits of traditional Medicare plus preventive services, health and wellness programs, eye exams, prescription drugs benefits, and emergency and urgent care coverage worldwide. It will no longer be necessary for seniors to purchase a separate supplemental plan because these types of benefits are included. All of these benefits are available under HAP Senior Plus with a single I.D. card.

HAP Senior Plus is available now with and without a drug benefit. The geographic service area grew from three counties to nine counties in 2005. HAP Senior Plus currently serves seniors and Medicare-eligible individuals in Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne counties.

“Approval from the federal government enables HAP to continue expanding our Medicare programs into more counties, offer seniors more choices in benefits, greater savings on prescription drug coverage, and more doctors and hospitals,” said Patricia Richards, HAP COO. “Experience matters. HAP is the only local Southeast Michigan managed care plan with a proven 20-year track record of serving seniors through our Medicare participation. Enrollees appreciate Senior Plus because it’s easy to use and easy to understand. Local, experienced customer service representatives can answer their questions.

“Thanks to the range of options available through HAP, seniors can choose a plan that addresses their individual concerns about cost, coverage and convenience,” said Richards. “Those with retiree health benefits should ask their former employer or union for advice.”
