SOMAVAC Medical Solutions Appoints Product Marketing Manager Pro David Oliver as it Prepares for the Launch of Flagship Medical Device

Memphis, TN (September 12, 2018) – SOMAVAC® Medical Solutions, Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of David Oliver as Upstream Product Marketing Manager. Oliver’s knowledge of marketing, product development and launch planning will be a commanding asset to SOMAVAC as the company takes the SOMAVAC® 100 Sustained Vacuum System to market.

The SOMAVAC® 100 is a low-profile, user friendly, wearable medical device that applies sustained vacuum to a closed wound following surgery to remove fluid effectively and reduce the risk of seroma. It is designed to replace the legacy technology of using suction bulbs with surgical drains, which has seen little innovation or advancements since the bulbs’ conception in 1970’s.

Oliver will oversee the pre-commercial product development and go-to-market strategy for SOMAVAC, as well as launch support, bench and clinical evaluations, and develop and maintain relationships with healthcare providers and external partners, such as regulatory specialists and vendors.

“We led an extensive search and David was a clear choice given his experience, background, and proven track record in medtech product marketing,” said Dr. Esra Roan, co-founder and CEO of SOMAVAC Medical Solutions. “We are absolutely confident that David is the right person to guide our first product to market and establishing the SOMAVAC 100 as a key device in post-surgical care.”

“We’re pleased to welcome David to the SOMAVAC team,” said Joshua Herwig, co-founder and CTO of SOMAVAC Medical Solutions. “David’s knowledge and skills are the perfect mix of expertise that will be vital to us as we move to market.”

With more than 15 years of experience in product marketing and sales management, Oliver held key positions at several Memphis-based medical device companies, including Wright Medical which was named a “Forbes Most Innovative Growth Companies”.

Between positions at MMF Consulting as a health care financial consultant in 2002 and Wright Medical Technology in 2017, the totality of Oliver’s direct product marketing, sales and management experience goes beyond the development, implementation and forecasting of plans for medical products and business models.

Oliver holds an MBA and a BA from University of Memphis Fogelman College of Business and Economics.

“I am excited to be joining SOMAVAC as we focus on commercialization of this innovative technology that holds such promise to greatly improve the treatment of surgical wounds,” said Oliver. “And I am incredibly proud to be joining such a talented and dedicated team and look forward to bringing to market a new device that can significantly improve surgical recoveries.”

The SOMAVAC® 100 is indicated for use in a range of surgeries which lead to large surgical flaps requiring drains, such as abdominal surgery, mastectomy, cosmetic surgery, hernia surgery, orthopedic procedures, etc.
