Wedgewood Pharmacy and Vetsource Partnership to Add Thousands of Commonly Prescribed Compounded Medications to the Vetsource Home-Delivery Platform Goes Live
Published: Jul 09, 2018
Wedgewood Pharmacy, based in Swedesboro, New Jersey, makes customized medications for people, their pets, and their horses when commercially available drugs cannot meet their needs. Compounded medications are dispensed under prescriptions written by physicians, veterinarians, and other legally authorized prescribers, and are created and prepared by specially trained pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
Vetsource provides innovative pharmacy, technology, and business services to more than 8,000 veterinary practices across the country. As the only industry-endorsed Home-Delivery pharmacy provider, it sources quality medications and nutrition products directly from the manufacturers and ships them right to pet owners’ front doors. Using Vetsource’s mobile-optimized ScriptRight® ePrescribing tool, veterinarians can write, review, and approve prescriptions from any web-enabled device—even when they are away from the practice. Pet owners also can use Vetsource’s tools through their veterinarians’ online stores to request prescription refills and order nutritional and over-the-counter healthcare products.
Marcy A. Bliss, Wedgewood Pharmacy’s president and CEO, said, “We’ve gained our position as the largest, most trusted animal-health compounding pharmacy in the United States because we focus on helping our customers order and prescribe quality compounded preparations whenever and however they want. Our partnership with Vetsource allows veterinarians to access our extensive formulary of high-quality compounded preparations through a rapidly growing channel. We receive those prescription orders directly into our system for preparation, quality control, and shipment. This is one more way in which we keep our promise of Great Care, Delivered.”
Kurt D. Green, president and CEO of Vetsource, added, “Prescribing customized prescription medications is essential to every veterinary practice. Our partnership with Wedgewood Pharmacy brings another best-in-class solution to our customers, and allows us to greatly expand our offering of compounded medications through our Home-Delivery program to help our partner practices run better businesses, deliver better care, and personalize their clients’ experiences via an eCommerce platform they increasingly prefer.”
About Wedgewood Pharmacy
In its 37 years, Wedgewood Pharmacy has grown from a local community pharmacy to become the largest animal-health compounding pharmacy in the United States. Wedgewood Pharmacy serves more than 30,000 prescribers and hundreds of thousands of patients throughout the U.S. every year with customized animal-health and human-health prescriptions. George (late) and Lucy Malmberg, both pharmacists, purchased Wedgewood Pharmacy in 1981; the pharmacy was founded in 1980. In June 2016, Chicago-based New Harbor Capital became the majority owner of the company.
