Vizient, Inc. Applauds DEA for Taking Steps to Help Alleviate Opioid Shortages in Hospitals

IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Vizient, Inc. applauds the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for working with health care industry stakeholders to take steps to alleviate certain drug shortages facing the nation’s acute care providers.
 
While combating opioid abuse and addiction remains a top national priority, it’s important to note that hospitals and other healthcare providers are currently experiencing critical shortages of a number of injectable narcotics that are an essential element of treatment for post-surgical and medical pain management. It’s critical that a balance is struck to ensure guardrails help prevent prescription opioid abuse, but also that necessary injectable medicines remain accessible for the acute care setting.
 
Through the DEA’s recent efforts, Vizient is hopeful that injectable opioid medications that have been experiencing severe shortages will now be more readily available for acute care providers to use for responsible patient care.
