Signal Group Hires Leading Healthcare Communications Executive

WASHINGTON, Aug. 7, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Signal Group, a leader in strategic communications, public affairs, and government relations, today announced that it has hired healthcare communications professional Michelle Baker to join the firm as an executive vice president. She will start in her new role on August 13, 2018.

With more than 20 years of public health communications and public affairs experience, Baker has counseled many pharmaceutical companies, health systems and government agencies on complex policy, brand and market communications priorities. At SIGNAL, Baker will leverage this experience in support of clients' integrated public health and healthcare technology communications, policy communications, and national advocacy coalition management strategy and thought leadership.

"Michelle's combination of leadership and real-world market experience perfectly match the caliber of professional that makes up SIGNAL's senior team," said Eric Bovim, Managing Director of the firm's communications business.

Baker joins SIGNAL from Weber Shandwick/Powell Tate where she led the firm's DC healthcare practice, overseeing a portfolio of government, industry and nonprofit clients. She has advised on many of today's most pressing health issues, including cancer, addiction, mental health, cardiovascular disease, community health, and telehealth.

"The healthcare marketplace is undergoing big changes that present opportunities and challenges for both emerging companies and industry leaders," said Baker. "I'm excited to help SIGNAL's biopharmaceutical and health tech clients navigate a growing number of consumer, commercial and regulatory issues that are evolving in real time," she added.

"Michelle's addition to the team represents added expertise and mentorship for emerging professionals," said Jessica Rihani, SIGNAL's Chief Operating Officer. "It's also an opportunity for SIGNAL to continue to grow an already robust foundation of healthcare and health tech work for industry-leading clients," Rihani added.

Prior to joining Weber Shandwick, Baker worked at Chandler Chicco Agency/inVentiv Health and Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide. She serves on the board of the Caregivers Action Network, helping mobilize support for family caregivers at a national level. A Tulane University graduate with a master's degree in Journalism from The University of Texas at Austin, Baker has supported pro bono work to promote disability-inclusive work environments as well as hurricane disaster communications.
