Senior living community puts down roots in its backyard with $23 million campus

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Sept. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- As Neil Kraay prepared to break ground on the newest senior living community in Kent County, he laughed at the joke that he was starting to build a campus he may someday call home.

Kraay, the President and CEO of Grand Rapids-based Leisure Living Management, celebrated the vision for the $23 million Cascade Trails Senior Living development and its 18-acre campus that will play a key role in the aging plans of seniors in and around Cascade, Forest Hills and the Greater Grand Rapids area.

"This is a day we've been waiting on and been excited for," said Kraay, noting he lives nearby. "This is in our backyard, in our hometown and we believe this will be a wonderful campus to enjoy the outdoors and the security of a new home."

Cascade Trails is unique among senior living communities with options that include 54 independent living apartments, six townhome-style condominiums and 44 apartments for assisted living and Leisure Living's nationally recognized Moments Memory Care program.

The community, at 1225 Spaulding Ave. SE, will provide premier senior living and care for residents who require different levels of support. Residents will be able to transition between living spaces as their health needs require. Those living at the center will have access to daily meals, multiple activity spaces and a complete set of amenities and assistance.

Cascade Trails, which connects to miles of trails for hiking and biking and is near the Forest Hills business district's restaurants and medical facilities, is taking reservations for an anticipated opening in 2020. All apartments operate on a month-to-month rental basis.

Kim Livingston, president of the Forest Hills Business Association, welcomed Cascade Trails to the community and said the variety of living and care options are critical for area residents.

"This will be a great resource for the seniors of Forest Hills," Livingston said. "It's nice when you can put down roots in a community and then be able to plan for your future in the same area. Residents can stay close to the places they love."
