PolyRemedy, Inc. Issued Patent for Innovative Wound Care System
Published: Mar 28, 2011
BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - March 28, 2011) - PolyRemedy™, a provider of personalized wound care systems, today announced the US Patent Office has issued a patent that covers technology for assessment-driven selection and fabrication of personalized dressings. The patent for invention number 7,448,186 covers selection algorithms and manufacturing methods that result in advanced antimicrobial dressings that are customized for optimal moisture control, vapor transfer, size and shape to provide an optimal wound healing environment. The company also announced the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has confirmed reimbursement coding for the full customization of the company's PolyFIT™ personalized advanced dressings.
The prevalent method of wound treatment involves clinicians covering a wound with dressings selected from an inventory of stocked supplies. Yet caregivers often select dressings with varying degrees of understanding of advanced wound healing principals, making treatment consistency and appropriateness difficult to maintain. PolyRemedy's integrated Personalized Woundcare System (PWS™) ensures consistency of care by linking wound assessment to evidence-based protocols that address the functional needs of the patient's wound(s) at each point in the healing cycle. Furthermore, assessment data are leveraged to provide access to comprehensive analytics that allow for monitoring wound progress and resource utilization.
"This integrated approach to advanced wound care benefits both patients and caregivers. PWS generates a PolyFIT personalized dressing that is optimized for a specific patient, at a specific point in their healing cycle. At the same time PWS provides the treating nurse with a simplified one-step application, eliminating the ad-hoc customization that typically occurs," said Dr. Diane Cooper, Medical Director and Chief of Clinical Affairs at PolyRemedy. "As a result, PWS imparts consistency and efficiency to enable high-quality advanced wound care."
"Our transformative approach of using technology to link consistent assessment, evidence-directed treatment and continuous quality improvement is unique in the industry. PolyRemedy has demonstrated PWS's impact on improving consistency and reducing costs; ultimately we believe PWS will demonstrate that our system improves clinical outcomes," said Mark Carbeau, President and CEO of PolyRemedy. "CMS code classification for full customization recognizes the unique value of personalized advanced dressings while the patent provides important protection to PolyRemedy as we continue to develop innovative solutions that impact chronic wound care."
With offices in Boston and Mountain View, CA, PolyRemedy, Inc. offers integrated wound management systems designed to increase consistency by extending wound care expertise to the point of care.
