Ohio's LGBTQ Community-Based Healthcare System Thanks Governor DeWine

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Jan. 15, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Equitas Health applauds Governor Mike DeWine's decision to issue executive orders extending non-discrimination legal protections to Ohio state employees for gender identity and expression, among other new protected classes. The executive orders were signed shortly after Ohio's newest Governor took office.

Equitas Health (formerly AIDS Resource Center Ohio) is a not-for-profit community-based healthcare system founded in 1984. Its expanded mission makes it one of the nation's largest HIV/lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) healthcare organizations. "We hope it's the first step in what we hope will be a series of steps towards full equality for all Ohioans. We believe that all people, no matter where they work or live, deserve these same legal protections," said Bill Hardy, President & CEO of Equitas Health, Ohio's LGBTQ community-based healthcare system.

Equitas Health also hopes the Governor will take a science-based approach to addressing healthcare issues that affect all Ohioans, including the modernization of HIV criminalization laws. "We look forward to working with this administration to ensure that the voices of LGBTQ Ohioans are at the table as we move towards a more just and fair Ohio," said Hardy.
