SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - April 19, 2013) -

Naviscan, the manufacturer of a High-Resolution PET Scanner and the Stereo Navigator® Biopsy Accessory, is exhibiting at the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBS) Conference on May 1-5, 2013 in Chicago, Illinois. The breast application of this Scanner, known as Positron Emission Mammography or PEM, and Biopsy Accessory will be featured for educational purposes at the Advanced Technology Workshop on May 1 at 2:30 p.m. in Chicago Rooms 9 and 10.

Leading US breast surgeon experts will be on hand at the Naviscan booth 802 to discuss their experiences with breast PET and the industry's first, PET-guided biopsy accessory at the following times:

  • Dr. Mike Kinney (from Arlington Heights, IL) Friday, May 3 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Dr. Jane Nelson (from Austin, TX) Friday, May 3 from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
  • Dr. Mark Gittleman (from Allentown, PA) Saturday, May 4 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Naviscan Breast PET scanner is compact, mobile and easy-to-use for precisely characterizing breast cancer, enhancing surgical planning, monitoring patient response to chemotherapy and evaluating suspected recurrence. It is designed to show the metabolic phase of a lesion allowing for early breast cancer diagnosis and assisting physicians in making optimal care decisions by providing an ability to distinguish between benign and malignant lesions.

The Stereo Navigator is the first commercially available breast PET-guided biopsy accessory, enabling clinicians to guide compatible interventional devices towards abnormalities visible on PET. The accessory is compatible with the three leading vacuum assisted biopsy devices.

"ASBS is an important conference for both of our products. Breast surgeons in particular, are early adopters of significant new technologies and have embraced the value of the PEM application, image-guided biopsy and its impact on the surgical management of breast cancer patients," states Paul J. Mirabella, CEO, Naviscan, Inc. "We are honored to have such esteemed surgeons participating in the conference with us."
