Meridian Spreads Warmth this Holiday Season

DETROIT and TAMPA, Fla.,/PRNewswire/ -- Meridian, a WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG) company, is donating $100,000 worth of coats, hats, gloves, and socks to the homeless through local shelters and non-profit organizations in eight Michigan counties: Wayne, Kent, Macomb, Kalamazoo, Genesee, Oakland, Jackson, and Berrien.
As part of this initiative to give back, on Dec. 21, Meridian employee volunteers will accompany the Salvation Army Bed and Bread truck to distribute the winter clothing directly to the homeless shelters in Wayne County. "As a company that focuses on the holistic health of our members, we understand the importance of giving back to our communities, especially around the holiday season," said Sean Kendall, president of Meridian. Meridian also partnered with Matrix Human Services to purchase presents for families in need through the Angel Tree program. Meridian adopted a total of 38 families this year, making Meridian the top donating sponsor for the fourth consecutive year. "Meridian's partnership with Matrix [Human Services] has been ongoing for four years," said Kendall. "Our associates truly enjoy adopting families and giving back directly, spending the day with those that they bought gifts and needed items for." In addition to these philanthropic efforts in Michigan, Meridian will be a supporting sponsor of I Am A Gentleman's (IAAG) 'Tis The Season initiative in Chicago, Illinois, an event that provides less fortunate families with food, clothing, and gifts delivered by students, staff, Meridian representatives, and other IAAG supporters.
