Medicis Won't Sell Fat-buster in the US Despite FDA OK

Medicis Pharmaceutical Corp. said Thursday that it has gained Food and Drug Administration approval to sell its fat-busting technology, Liposonix, in the United States. But the Scottsdale-based pharmaceutical company said it will stick with a previously announced plan to sell or explore other strategic alternatives for Liposonix, which uses ultrasound to destroy fat tissue beneath the surface of the skin. Liposonix is used in Europe and Canada, and Medicis said it will continue to support customers who use the technology abroad.
