Great Basin Scientific, Inc. Names Laurence Rea as Vice President of Operations Rea Will Manage the Company's Laboratory and Manufacturing Facilities Outside of Boulder, Colo.

SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Great Basin Scientific, Inc., has named Laurence Rea vice president of operations, according to Ryan Ashton, president and CEO of Great Basin Scientific, a privately held life sciences company developing novel, point-of-care molecular diagnostic solutions. Rea will be responsible for creating the regulatory, manufacturing and quality control systems and staffing needed to take the company's molecular diagnostic products through clinical trials and to market. Rea also will oversee the set up of the company's manufacturing facilities in Longmont, Colo.

"He is a veteran of the industry who has seen many products successfully through the manufacturing and regulatory process and his recent past experience at BioStar, manufacturing a chip-based rapid test, is similar to Great Basin's chip-based molecular diagnostic system."
Rea brings to Great Basin Scientific more than 20 years of engineering and manufacturing experience, of which eight years were spent managing a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facility for BioStar, Inc., a subunit of Inverness Medical Innovations, Inc., with revenues that exceeded $30 million during Rea's tenure. As general manager at BioStar, Rea was responsible for FDA regulatory requirements and the overall performance of the business unit.
Rea has particular expertise in seeing products through the regulatory process. During his past eight years at BioStar, Rea and his staff were responsible for seeing multiple diagnostic products through the 510K approval process. He also oversaw the pre-clinical and clinical trials at hospitals and clinics, including institutional review board (IRB) approvals from multiple organizations.
Rea holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from University of Colorado, Boulder, Colo.
