Concept Life Sciences Now Offers Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon Testing Service

Concept Life Sciences has added polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) analysis in edible oils to its range of ISO 17025 accredited services.

PAHs have been linked to a number of health issues including various forms of cancer, therefore, the food and allied industries have a responsibility to ensure product safety.

The recently accredited service meets the demands of the edible oils industry for both food and pharmaceutical use and complies with Commission Regulation 835/2011 which specifies the PAHs to be monitored such as: Benzo(a)Pyrene, Benzo(a)Anthracene, Benzo(b)Fluoranthene, Chrysene and their total.

The origin of contamination in oils includes environmental (both airborne and water) and various processing methods such as smoking, applied on foods during the manufacturing process.

To meet the increasing challenges of the food industry to comply with strict legislation, Concept Life Sciences continue to focus their R & D programme to develop and validate new and complex analysis that utilize the scientific skills of the organisation and ‘state of the art’ analytical instrumentation. This new service now compliments the testing of other undesirable substances including PCB, Dioxins, Furans and Heavy Metals.

Dr Naresh Patel, Director of Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance Development said: “This new test is a direct reaction to the demands of the industry we serve to compliment the suite of analytical services that our group offers. This is a part of a continuing regime of investment aimed at increasing the analytical and scientific scope of services. I am delighted that we can continue the proactive relationship with our clients.”
