Carestream Health, Inc.'s MyVue Patient Portal Can Boost Patient Satisfaction, Help U.S. Providers Address Meaningful Use Requirements
Houston Medical Imaging (Houston, Texas) is one of the first healthcare providers to implement MyVue as an extension of its Vue PACS. It deployed the patient portal at its three outpatient imaging centers. “Our patients immediately embraced MyVue, which is accessible from our web site. More than 60% of patients registered for the portal and over half of those patients have accessed their images online,” said Randall A. Stenoien, MD, CEO of Houston Medical Imaging. “Most of our patients prefer the MyVue portal because it’s easy to use and more convenient than managing DVDs or CDs. And because this portal provides a value-added service to patients, it differentiates our imaging centers from the competition.” MyVue is currently available as an option for Vue PACS and Vue Archive (that uses third party PACS) users and is now available for order as a Vue Cloud Service. The Vue Cloud Service offers the flexibility of a monthly fee and can accommodate rapid expansion without the need for healthcare facilities to fund and manage network expansions to accommodate additional patient users.
Carestream manages remote access, networking requirements and security procedures for users of the service model. The company also addresses regulatory compliance and service uptime. The cloud service is scheduled for availability in February 2013.
The MyVue portal emails a unique and secure log-in to each patient. Patient images, information and reports can be accessed through the secure log-in from a variety of Web-browser enabled devices. Once registered, patients can view their study or portfolio and share it with desired physicians. The portal is easy to use, and requires no software downloads for patients or physicians. The HTML5 viewer can be deployed on multiple devices and complements Vue Motion, which is an image viewer for clinicians and referring physicians. Both MyVue and Vue Motion can help boost referring physicians’ satisfaction and enhance image exchange services.

Intuitive User Interface Enhances Usage
An intuitive user interface makes MyVue easy to implement and support, and no dedicated patient training is required. MyVue can be embedded within an existing HIS or EMR patient portal. The portal features SSL encryption along with an encrypted token for each URL. Built-in auditing features commit to HIPAA compliance, including logins and tracking of accessed data.
According to Stage 2 Meaningful Use requirements, U.S. healthcare providers and professionals must provide a secure patient portal that allows patients to electronically view, download and transmit their medical records within four business days of the information being available.
