Bioheart, Inc. to Initiate ANGEL Trial in Mexico
Published: Oct 29, 2012
SUNRISE, FL--(Marketwire - October 29, 2012) - Bioheart, Inc. (OTCQB: BHRT) has announced that it will initiate its ANGEL trial in Mexico at the Hospital Angeles with the Regenerative Medicine Institute (RMI). NorthStar Biotech LLC, a consortium of Bioheart Directors and Shareholders, has agreed to fund the trial which will test the safety and efficacy of LipiCell™ (adipose derived stem cells) in congestive heart failure patients. The first cohort of five patients will be completed and analyzed to help establish a safety profile and preliminary efficacy.
"The facilities at Hospital Angeles and RMI are top notch and we are excited to move the ANGEL trial forward. We are fortunate to have the support from NorthStar to fund these trials," said Kristin Comella, Chief Science Officer of Bioheart.
Bioheart's cell therapy products address an unmet need in the cardiac market by providing true regenerative medicine where the MyoCell® product line may regenerate muscle in areas of scar tissue and the LipiCell® product may help reduce inflammation and promote the growth of new blood vessels. Bioheart intends to complete a portion of its clinical trials in Mexico to help reduce costs and accelerate the opportunities for commercialization outside the US.
