British drugmaker AstraZeneca PLC said Thursday it will cut about 400 jobs from its U.S. commercial business as part of a push to streamline operations. The cuts include 70 positions that are already vacant, so about 330 employees will be affected. AstraZeneca spokesman Tony Jewell said the company has about 14,400 employees in the United States and Canada, but he didn't have a separate figure for the U.S. AstraZeneca will give employees the option of voluntarily leaving, and those who do will receive the same severance package as those who are cut. Jewell, who said the cuts will exclude sales positions, declined to comment on the severance package.
