Absorption Systems Expands Its Presence In San Diego
EXTON, Penn., Oct. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Absorption Systems, a global leader in the science of translational medicine, pharmacokinetic testing of drugs, and safety testing of medical devices, announces that it has constructed a second facility in San Diego, CA. The expansion increases the company's west coast footprint by 60%, to a total of about 50,000 square feet. This expansion is driven by sustained demand for the company's contract services to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies throughout the world. The new site was built to exacting specifications, to meet or exceed regulatory requirements for animal care and use while also accommodating cutting-edge in vivo and in vitro science.
The new facility features a digitally monitored, state-of-the-art vivarium, which meets U.S. and European Union requirements, and multiple procedure rooms to enable both routine and complex studies. Routine studies include preclinical pharmacokinetic profiling of novel and modified existing small molecule therapeutics and biologics administered via various dose routes. The more complex studies involve the use of surgically modified animals, immune-compromised animals, disease models for efficacy, and other specialized mechanistic models.
Increased capacity for rodent and large animal pharmacokinetics and toxicology studies, efficacy models, and a well-equipped formulations lab to support these studies are features of the new site. Additionally, in-life studies will be supported by a bioanalytical lab featuring sensitive, state-of-the-art mass spectrometers. Both the existing facility the new site are registered with the USDA and accredited by AAALAC.
