Patients and doctors alike praise the first-of-its-kind program that delivers access to the nation’s top hematologic oncologists via virtual consultations

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- InfiniteMD, a leading provider of virtual expert opinions from top U.S. specialists, and the CLL Society, a non-profit organization supporting patients with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL), today announced the renewal of the Expert Access program that connects leukemia patients with the nation’s experts in hematologic oncology via remote consultations.

The Expert Access program’s mission is to improve patient access to expert care, which is often impeded by geographic remoteness or other financial barriers.

Christopher Lee, PhD, Co-Founder of InfiniteMD, said, “The Expert Access program is the first disease-specific, no-cost virtual physician consultation program to give patients across the nation access to live, video visits with highly recognized chronic lymphocytic leukemia medical experts.”

The Expert Access program is championed by the CLL Society Founder, Brian Koffman, MD, who was diagnosed with CLL in 2005. “The Mayo Clinic has published research showing that patients with a CLL expert as part of their care team live longer than those without this important advantage. I’m proud to be part of a new technology which is helping patients get expert care they otherwise would not have access to,” said Dr. Koffman.

Currently, the Expert Access program extends its expert opinion services to those who are unable to have their medical condition evaluated by a CLL medical expert. The program has served over 100 patients and is funded by an unrestricted grant. Thirty-nine percent of patients have been located in rural areas and have only had access to a general oncologist for treatment. In 2019, Expert Access will be enhanced to allow patients additional follow-up consultations.

Matthew Davids, MD, Associate Director of the CLL Center at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, said, “The approach to treating CLL has recently been revolutionized by the approval of highly effective and well-tolerated novel therapies. The Expert Access program is helping CLL patients across the nation get access to CLL specialists who can provide individualized perspectives on how these new approaches may benefit them.”

Enrollment in Expert Access is still open to patients diagnosed with CLL for the remainder of 2018.
