The 2005 award was presented at a special recognition and awards luncheon held during TNA's 5th Annual Nursing Leadership Conference September 15-16, by Poldi Tschirch, PhD, RN, TNA vice president, chair of the TNA Awards Committee, and director of distance education, University of Texas Medical Branch Telehealth Center, Galveston.

Commenting on Green's achievement in being recognized with this award, Tschirch noted that she is "a woman of principle and a voice for collaboration. Her entire career has focused on teaching and nursing practice, particularly in the areas of adult health, critical care and public policy."

During Green's TNA presidency (1999-2001), she helped to bring initial state-wide focus to the depth, complexity and future ramifications of a then newly identified nursing shortage. Her work in health policy has always been consistent, especially around the workforce/nursing shortage. Currently, she co-chairs the Nursing Workforce Data Advisory Committee (NWDAC), established in 2004 in response to passage of House Bill 3126 by the Texas 78th Regular Legislative Session. NWDAC consists of 21 representatives from across the state who serve as a steering committee for the Nursing Workforce Data Section of the Texas Statewide Health Coordinating Committee. Their charge among other items is to provide policy recommendations that assure an adequate nursing workforce for the State of Texas.

Dr. Green is also an alumna of the Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow Class of 2001, founding member of the Texas Nursing Education Policy Coalition, Texas Nursing Legislative Agency Policy Coalition, and the Texas Patient Safety Alliance. Her leadership in a community coalition resulted in a $2.9 million grant award from the U.S. Department of Labor to address the nursing shortage in West Texas. Additionally, Green has been recognized as a Distinguished Lecturer of Sigma Theta Tau International, a Great 100 Nursing Alumni of Texas Woman's University, and Teacher of the Year from the Texas Nursing Students' Association.
