Quality Health Foundation Announces Call For Proposals

EASTON, Md., Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Quality Health Foundation (QHF), the mission arm of Delmarva Foundation, a national not-for-profit organization committed to improving the quality of healthcare, today announced a call for proposals for the 2005 grant cycle, which will award grants to eligible organizations that work to improve healthcare for individuals and communities through improvement projects. In 2004, QHF awarded nearly $250,000 to eight different organizations.

Projects of many types will be funded including service demonstration programs that focus on producing high impacts on health outcomes. Applications for grants will be accepted through February 15th and applicants will be notified in May of 2005. Applicants must be from Maryland and the District of Columbia, where Delmarva is the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for the area.

"We were pleased by the scope of projects we were able to fund during 2004 and are certain that efforts by the grant recipients will have a true impact on the access to and quality of healthcare," said Roger C. Merrill, MD, Chairman of the Quality Health Foundation's board of directors. "We plan to again provide grants up to $50,000 to faith-based groups, healthcare providers, educational institutions, government agencies, and other organizations and individuals committed to improving access to quality healthcare and will prioritize funding based on a project's potential impact on healthcare improvements and access for individuals and communities."

Funding priorities for the 2005 include:

   * Improved treatment through the use of "best practices" * Improved access to healthcare services * Improved communication of health knowledge

Delmarva Foundation formed Quality Health Foundation in 2003 in an effort to further their mission of improving healthcare in local communities.

"Delmarva Foundation works across the nation to help improve the quality of healthcare people receive. QHF was established to give back to the communities we collaborate with in our business contracts and further our mission by providing services others have not funded," stated Maulik Joshi, President and Chief Executive Officer, Delmarva Foundation. "We are looking forward to seeing what types of projects will be proposed for funding in the 2005 grant cycle."
