International Omega-3 Awareness Day Features World Expert William Harris PhD, Omega-3 Index Co-Founder as Keynote Speaker March 3, 2011

SANTA ANA, Calif., March 1, 2011 – The 2nd Annual Educational Summit by International Omega-3 Awareness Day is this Thursday, March 3rd at the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana with keynote speaker William Harris, PhD, Founder of OmegaQuant and Co-Founder of the Omega-3 Index, a new bio-health marker recently discussed by Dr. Oz. An international expert on Omega-3, Harris states, “There is no nutrient more important for heart disease protection – and more missing from our diets than omega-3.”

The event’s Founder, Carol Locke, MD, Harvard trained psychiatrist and Founder of OmegaBrite states, “A study by the Harvard School of Public Heath found that Omega-3 deficiency is the cause of up to 96,000 preventable deaths in the United States and we can prevent these unnecessary deaths and promote wellness with omega-3 education. Omega-3 EPA and DHA reduce risk of sudden death up to 45%, and overall mortality of any cause by 20% in from any cause GISSI study; people need access to this information.”

Harvard Medical School Faculty, William E. Butler, MD, one of the world’s top pediatric neurosurgeons, will moderate the event. Butler states, “There is substantial evidence to suggest that our levels of omega-3 essential fatty acids may be the most potent cardio-protective factors in the human diet. Optimal omega-3 intake can have a profound effect in safely reducing the risk of cardiac disease and promoting health in men, women and children of all ages.”

Omega-3 expert, author and science consultant Dr. Joyce Nettleton will speak on the importance of omega-3 EPA and DHA in pregnancy and childhood. Nutritional and omega-3 expert and consultant Gretchen Vannice will speak on practical ways to increase omega-3 intake in our diet. Given the predicted epidemic of diabetes and health problems in our younger generations, Jason Stoll, high school senior and founding member of the non-profit International Omega-3 Awareness Day, states, “A preventable cause of death we can change— let’s do it! Information is power and people need this information now to add omega-3 to their diets to live longer and healthier lives. My generation doesn’t have to be the first generation to live a shorter life span. We can change that right now. That is our goal as a non-profit educational organization – to get this information out there to the people.”
