LARCHMONT, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 13, 2004--Medications, surgery, and other interventional strategies for treating cardiovascular disease have largely been designed for and tested in men. Alexandra Lansky, M.D., Director of the Women's Cardiovascular Health Initiative at the Cardiovascular Research Foundation, will describe ongoing efforts to adapt these approaches specifically for women in a presentation entitled "Cardiovascular Disease: Tailoring Pharmacological, Interventional, and Surgical Strategies for Women," during the 12th Annual Congress on Women's Health at the Hilton Head Marriott Beach and Golf Resort in Hilton Head, SC, June 5-8, 2004.
Several other presentations at the congress address cardiovascular disease in women, including "Stress Testing: Does it Accurately Predict Cardiac Risk in Women?" and two sessions focusing on controlling cholesterol levels -- "Statins: The New Miracle Cure?" and "Raising HDL Levels in Women."
Also highlighting this year's Annual Congress on Women's Health is a focus on chronic pain and challenges in pain management, including state-of-the-art prevention, differential diagnosis, and effective therapeutic protocols for pain relief.
The Women's Health Congress will include Grand Plenary sessions on the battle against obesity and prevailing views on menopause and the role of hormone replacement therapy and will take a look into the future at novel techniques for breast imaging.
