Alan Snyder, Ph.D. Elected to Board of Directors of Hershey Center for Applied Research

HERSHEY, Pa., Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of the Hershey Center for Applied Research (HCAR) announced, on November 28, 2007, that Alan J. Snyder, Ph.D., has been appointed to the board. Snyder joins seven board members and three board advisors for HCAR.

Snyder presently serves as Interim Vice Dean for Research and Graduate Studies at Penn State College of Medicine. He also serves as Interim Associate Vice President for Health Sciences Research, Penn State, and Professor of Surgery and Bioengineering, Penn State College of Medicine. Snyder is the Associate Dean for Technology Development at Penn State College of Medicine. The Office of Technology Development, which facilitates tech transfer activities for the College, is located in HCAR, enabling easy access to Snyder and the resources he brings to bear. Snyder is also the Vice Chair for Business Development in the Department of Surgery at the College of Medicine and is the Assistant Chief in the Division of Artificial Organs. In his research career, he is internationally known for his role in development of artificial hearts and circulatory support systems at Penn State. Snyder's deep knowledge of Penn State College of Medicine and The Pennsylvania State University and his role at the Office of Technology Development uniquely position him as a significant asset to HCAR's resident companies, and a valuable addition to the board.
