Hyundai Hope On Wheels Completes Its Annual Nationwide Tour For Childhood Cancer Awareness Month And Its 20th Anniversary In Supporting The Cause

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif.,  /PRNewswire/ -- Celebrating its 20th year anniversary in the fight against pediatric cancer, Hyundai Hope On Wheels® (HHOW), a 501c(3) non-profit organization, hosted the final stop of its nationwide tour for Childhood Cancer Awareness month in Orange County. This year's campaign theme, "Every Handprint Tells A Story," details the bravery of kids fighting cancer, their families and the ground-breaking research of doctors fighting for a cure. This year, HHOW partnered with the Making It Better Agents organization to host its first-ever Orange County Thought Leaders' Summit featuring talented doctors and oncology subject matter experts leading conversations around advanced treatment options for Osteosarcoma. Following the Summit, HHOW also hosted an Awards Dinner Reception and then ended the weekend with the 9th annual Run for Hope 5K/10 Race featuring special musical guest, Megan Hilty (Broadway's "Wicked" and NBC's "Smash"). During the Run for Hope Race, HHOW presented Children's Hospital of Orange County with a $200,000 grant toward furthering pediatric cancer research.

"Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is a time when our company, local dealers, doctors, and families in the community come together to raise awareness about the issue of pediatric cancer," says Zafar Brooks Executive Director of Hyundai Hope On Wheels and Corporate Social Responsibility of Hyundai Motor America. "This organization celebrates 20 years of saving lives and creating hope because of strong communities like Orange County standing with us in the fight to end childhood cancer. Together, we will find a cure to this disease."

Throughout the month of September, HHOW has embarked on a nationwide tour announcing 38 new doctor-researchers receiving a combined $14.1 million to support novel therapeutic approaches and innovative research options in pediatric cancer. As a leader in pediatric cancer research, HHOW has surpassed $145 million towards funding research to find a cure since 1998. Childhood cancer researchers and institutions like Children's Hospital Orange County depend largely on private donations to advance and provide better treatment options.

"We are humbled to join our efforts alongside Hyundai Hope On Wheels in the fight for this very important cause," says Ann Graham Founder & President of Making It Better Agents. "The mission of our organization is to improve the quality of life of pediatric patients affected by Osteosarcoma and help the community of doctor researchers with resources for treatment advancements. We are hopeful to fight for a future without cancer."

Every 36 minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer in the U.S.  While nearly 80 percent of cancer in children can be cured, pediatric cancer remains the leading disease related cause of death for children.  This year's pediatric cancer research grants from HHOW deliver on its decades-long commitment to support the most promising childhood cancer research throughout the nation.
