Gene Activity May Predict Trauma Outcome, Princeton University Study

Published: Sep 22, 2011

Gene activity may help predict which patients recovering from trauma will suffer inflammation and infection, complications that can often be as deadly as the trauma itself. New research reported in the journal PLoS Medicine shows for the first time that people recovering from a serious injury, regardless of age, gender, or previous health, exhibit similar gene activity as their condition changes, which doctors can use to foresee and prepare for a patient’s deterioration.
