Can Merck & Co., Inc. Really Reboot Itself by Jettisoning Employees?

Last Tuesday, Merck chief executive Kenneth Frazier sent a message to the company’s employees. “Our size and our operating model have created inefficiencies and redundancies in the way we do business,” he wrote. “We can no longer afford to try and be all things to all people. This is not the time to simply tweak our processes and structures, this is the time for focused choices and precise execution if we want to succeed for years to come.”
