With 45,000 employees and median pay of $88,500 after five years, it’s easy to see why this medical-device company made the Business Insider list. Nearly 75 percent of Medtronic Inc. employees report that their job is satisfying, and 80.6 percent consider their schedule flexible.

A pharmaceutical company, Pfizer has 91,500 employees. Its median pay of $99,100 after five years certainly earns it a position within the best biotech employers in America. With 53,000 employees and median pay of $96,400 after five years, this chemical company compares quite favorably to others in the industry. Nearly 79 percent of Dow Chemical Company employees report that their job is satisfying, and 80.9 percent consider their schedule flexible.
10. Allergan—Irvine, California

One of the largest biotech employers in the Business Insider list, Johnson & Johnson employs more than 128,000 professionals. At $102,000 after five years, its median pay is also among the highest. With median pay of $90,400 after five years, Abbott Laboratories compares favorably to other pharmaceutical companies in the industry. Employing 91,000, nearly 82 percent of its workers consider their schedule flexible, while 75.3 report that their job is satisfying.
7. St. Jude Medical Inc.—St. Paul, Minnesota
A medical-device company, St. Jude Medical Inc. has 16,000 employees. Its median pay of $84,300 after five years is competitive compared to others in the industry. More than 75 percent of St. Jude Medical Inc. employees report that their job is satisfying. Seventy-four percent consider their schedule flexible.

With 48,500 employees, Baxter International Inc. appeared within the Business Insider list for the first time this year. This biotechnology and medical product company offers median pay of $86,200 after five years. Nearly 79 percent of its employees report their job is satisfying. Seventy-five percent consider their schedule flexible.

A pharmaceutical company, Bristol-Myers Squibb Company has 28,000 employees. It offers median pay of $106,000 after five years, putting it among the highest in the industry. A small biotechnology company with 5,000 employees, Gilead Sciences Inc. offers median pay of $105,000 after five years, a highly competitive figure. Employing 4,850 biotech professionals, this biotechnology company offers median pay of $96,100 after five years. Nearly 74 percent of its employees consider their job satisfying. Eighty-seven percent report their schedule is flexible, making Biogen Idec the second-most flexible employer in the industry.
1. Celgene Corporation—Summit, New JerseyOn Business Insider’s list of the 50 Best Employers in America, Celgene Corporation is in the top spot for the second year in a row. Employing 4,700 biotech professionals, they offer median pay of $116,000 after five years—the highest of any biotech company in the list.
