UCLA Plans $20 Million Institute To Conduct Stem Cell Research

The University of California, Los Angeles, is scheduled Wednesday to announce plans for a $20 million stem cell research institute that would compete for part of the $3 billion approved for the research by voters in November. UCLA officials said the university plans to spend $20 million in the next five years to establish the Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Medicine, creating 12 faculty positions and expanding laboratory space for the research.
