November 15, 2005 – In a successful trial, a Pfizer drug helped smokers kick the habit; Allergan topped a Medicis bid for Inamed Corp; Guidant and Johnson/Johnson came to terms for their deal; Merck said that Amevive was effective against psoriatic arthritis; Celgene received an approvable letter for the use of Thalomid as a multiple myeloma treatment; Altana withdrew its request for European approval of an oral anti-inflammatory drug; MGI Pharma and SuperGen responded to the approvable letter they received for Dacogen; the FDA released its negative opinion on Certican, a treatment for transplant rejection; and an Abbott drug did not lower the death rate among patients suffering from heart failure.
