Strategic Alliance Between Centre De Recherche Sur Les Biotechnologies Marines in Rimouski et le Centre National de Biologie Expérimentale in Laval
10/17/2013 9:36:38 AM
Rimouski and Laval, October 17, 2013. –A strategic partnership agreement to develop marine biotechnologies was recently signed by Centre de recherche sur les biotechnologies marines (CRBM) and Centre national de biologie expérimentale (CNBE) of Institut national de recherche scientifique (INRS). The agreement provides CRBM with a research site, the only one in Québec, where it can develop new products for its industrial partners, whereas CNBE will enjoy greater worldwide access to projects on biological materials of marine origin.
“Our partnership with CNBE will speed up targeted applied marine biotechnology research and development, particularly on pharmaceuticals, industrial bioproducts, natural health products, and nutraceuticals,” explains Dr. Guy Viel, Executive Director of CRBM.
“Thanks to this agreement, CRBM and its researchers and clients will be able to use CNBE’s facilities and expertise to conduct safety, pharmacokinetic, and efficacy studies on compounds in animals,” adds Dr. Mario C. Filion, Director of CNBE-INRS.
Member of Technopole Maritime du Québec, CRBM is dedicated to promote the development of the marine biotechnology industry through R&D and technology transfers, particularly for life sciences. To foster private sector growth, it provides technological and scientific R&D that meets the biotechnology industry’s highest operating standards. It offers the support of a high level, multidisciplinary team and specialized laboratories in molecular/cellular biology, extraction, chemistry, and microbiology, as well as state-of-the-art certified analysis services and a technology transfer centre housing an array of pilot test facilities.
CNBE, located on the INRS campus in Laval, offers high standard preclinical research services to the scientific community and the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. Certified by the Canadian Council on Animal Care in Science (CCAC) and the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC International), it provides housing for laboratory animals at various levels of biological confinement as well as an array of services required by R&D projects.
