FOSTER CITY, Calif., Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Entelos(R), Inc., the commercial leader in systems biology for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, announced today that Diabetes Research Forum member, Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research and Development, L.L.C. (J&JPRD) will expand its research collaboration with Entelos to include target validation, lead optimization and clinical development in the field of obesity. In addition, J&JPRD sister company McNeil Nutritionals Division of McNeil-PPC, Inc., will join the collaboration with Entelos. This announcement coincides with the first annual meeting of the Diabetes Research Forum held yesterday in Foster City, CA. The Forum is a groundbreaking research effort between Entelos, the American Diabetes Association, and the pharmaceutical industry to advance research in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. The expanded research collaboration will include the research efforts of Entelos' scientists in a joint obesity research program with J&JPRD and McNeil Nutritionals using the Entelos Metabolism PhysioLab(R) platform.
At the Forum's annual meeting, Entelos presented a second round of scientific insights regarding type 2 diabetes. A previous round of data consisting of novel targets and hypotheses regarding the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes was delivered to Forum members in June during the American Diabetes Association's Annual Scientific Meeting. Representatives from J&JPRD and its affiliate companies, the American Diabetes Association, Entelos, and members of the Alliance's Scientific Advisory Board attended the annual Diabetes Research Forum meeting, marking the first anniversary of the Forum's initiation.
Entelos' Metabolism PhysioLab platform is a dynamic, large-scale mathematical model of human pathophysiology that can rapidly simulate experiments and clinical trials related to human disease. Entelos has modeled organ, tissue, and cell-to-cell interaction to represent numerous diseases by employing a top-down modeling discipline which incorporates broad systems biology principles.
"We are pleased that Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development has expanded its current collaboration to include obesity and that McNeil Nutritionals has joined the collaboration," said James Karis, President and CEO of Entelos, Inc. "J&JPRD and McNeil Nutritionals can now take advantage of Entelos' full capabilities in the metabolic disease area."
