AUDUBON, Pa., March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Globus Medical, Inc., the largest privately held spinal implant manufacturer in the world, today announced the introduction of its NIKO(TM) Corpectomy Spacer System. The new system significantly reduces the time required for surgeons to perform multilevel corpectomies by offering an unprecedented array of interoperative options. It also extends Globus Medical's portfolio for trauma, tumor, and advanced degenerative disease solutions.
The NIKO(TM) Corpectomy Spacer System incorporates three saggital profiles within the implant system, each which contain at least nine preset heights. The resulting lordosis is contained in the endplate angles and within the shape of the implant itself, enabling surgeons to match the natural anatomy of the body. This feature allows NIKO(TM) to be immediately implanted, compared to multi-step competitive systems, by eliminating the assembly time of stackable cages or the cutting required with mesh cages.
"NIKO(TM) is an innovative approach to corpectomies, as it's simplicity saves interoperative time and the flexibility of preset options allows the surgeon to effectively treat the pathology. The system offers surgeons a straightforward alternative to mesh and stackable cages, while the elimination of interoperative implant alterations saves valuable time in the operating room. This is better for both surgeons and patients," said Dr. Nilesh Kotecha, MD, Neurosurgeon, Great Lakes Brain & Spine Institute, Jackson MI.
The addition of the NIKO(TM) Corpectomy Spacer enhances Globus Medical's product portfolio for meeting the clinical demands of spine surgery and specifically compliments the expandable and radiolucent XPand(R) R corpectomy cage. By meeting the demands of both routine and complex pathology, Globus Medical has an ability unmatched in the industry to serve the needs of surgeons who perform multilevel corpectomies due to trauma, tumors, and advanced degenerative disease.
"The ease-of-use and flexibility of NIKO(TM) reflects Globus Medical's superior engineering and commitment to advancing technology for the spine," said, Bill Rhoda, Director of Product Development, Intervertebral Fixation, "With NIKO(TM) and XPand (R) R, we continue to provide spine surgeons with a comprehensive portfolio of clinical solutions that are specifically designed to enhance surgical performance and improve patient outcomes."
