BOERNE, TX, December 14, 2011 – The Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS)
has chosen Stanbio Laboratory to supply more than 3,500 of its point-of-care
HemoPoint® H2 meters and related cuvette supplies for its IMSS OPORTUNIDADES
program. The IMSS OPORTUNIDADES initiative is a government health program
focused on underserved populations throughout Mexico’s 31 states. IMSS is the largest
social security institution in Latin America.
The goal of the IMSS OPORTUNIDADES program is to improve quality of life through
preventive diagnostics by identifying conditions such as diabetes, malnutrition, high
blood pressure, high cholesterol, anemia, and other epidemiological diseases. The
program will care for a broad range of Mexico’s 10.4 million IMSS program members,
including the unemployed, farmers, single mothers, and the population’s lowest income
people.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be selected by Mexico’s IMSS department to provide
our HemoPoint® H2 point-of-care system for their IMSS OPORTUNIDADES program,”
said Stanbio Laboratory President, William R. Pippin. “Our instruments and cuvettes are
regarded as the premium choice for near-patient hemoglobin testing in U.S. public health
clinics, physician offices and hospitals because of their ease-of-use, accuracy and
reliability. We are extremely proud to be partnering with the IMSS and government of
Mexico to help provide this much needed healthcare product and service to its most
deserving people,” Pippin added.
The IMSS OPORTUNIDADES program assists in providing care in 3,595 clinics, 270
urban attention centers, 225 itinerant units, and 79 hospitals across the Mexican territory.
Testing for anemia with the HemoPoint® H2 meter is expected to grow at a rate of 15 –
20% per year throughout Mexico during a five year period.
