Cambridge, UK, March 18, 2013: Abcam Plc, producer and distributor of high quality protein research tools, today announced its support for local good causes by donating an additional £45,000 to three local charities (£15,000 each). “Supporting our community is really important to Abcam. We’ve been incredibly fortunate over the years and are now really pleased to be able to now give something back, providing support at what is a critical point for some of these charities. We look forward to helping other good causes in the future,” commented Jonathan Milner, CEO, Abcam.
Abcam also regularly donates to a range of national and international causes through its Charity Committee. The Committee, which consists of Abcam employees, has been administrating funding to charities since 2004.
Rachel Newell, Social Enterprise and Business Development Manager, Wintercomfort, said: “We would like to thank Abcam for their donation. We’re looking at developing new initiatives that will give those that that are homeless or vulnerably housed the skills to help them get back into employment and this money will help support any current and future projects.”
Jane Darlington, CEO of Cambridge Community Foundation, said: “We are delighted to welcome Abcam as the latest member of our Community Foundation 100 initiative. Through this initiative we are bringing 100 local companies and people together to collectively support local voluntary and community groups that are working hard to improve the quality of life across the communities of Cambridgeshire.”
Dr. Carrie Herbert, Founder and Chief Executive of Red Balloon, said: “It is heart-warming when a successful local business supports a local charity which is now a national organization. With Abcam's help we shall be able to grow and deliver our recovery program to severely bullied and traumatized children who are unable to go to school.”
