As of January 1, 2013 Abbott Laboratories (ABT) will be split into two companies: a proprietary pharmaceuticals business, called AbbVie, with a new ticker symbol, ABBV, and a company retaining the Abbott name , focusing on medical devices, diagnostics, and nutritional products.
