Merck & Co., Inc. (MRK) Announces Changes To Management Committee

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 29, 2005--Merck & Co., Inc. today announced changes in the responsibilities of several Management Committee members. "These changes are designed to ensure an effective succession within the Merck Vaccines Division (MVD), consolidate senior leadership positions within U.S. Human Health (USHH) and create a new focus for Company-wide strategic planning," said Richard T. Clark, Chief Executive Officer and President, Merck. Effective Sept. 1, Adel A.F. Mahmoud, M.D., Ph.D., President of Merck Vaccines, will assume the new Management Committee position of Chief Medical Advisor, Vaccines and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Mahmoud, who is scheduled for mandatory retirement from Merck in September 2006, will continue to report to Mr. Clark. Dr. Mahmoud will represent Merck in external medical, policy and government forums on matters of infectious diseases and vaccines.
