Berlin, September 30, 2010 – By licensing the Cartagenia BENCH software, ATLAS
Biolabs GmbH has expanded its services for the evaluation of genetic data obtained by
DNA chip analysis. With the aid of this innovative web-based interpretation software it is
possible to screen for disease- and family-specific genetic variations and compare them
with public data online. It also provides a database-assisted platform for project-related
collaboration between different scientific institutions. Thus, customers of ATLAS Biolabs
can easily match genetic data and results.
"We are delighted with this new software,“ said Dr. Karsten Heidtke, Head of
Bioinformatics at ATLAS Biolabs. ”The advantages for our customers are obvious. It
provides them with an efficient evaluation system on which they can rely without having to
establish their own bioinformatics resources. Cartagenia BENCH processes DNA data
from all common chip assay systems including Affymetrix, Agilent and NimbleGen, which
are handled at ATLAS Biolabs."
In addition to academic institutions, centers specialized in human genetic testing and
cytogenetic laboratories may benefit particularly from ATLAS Biolabs’ new service. “In a
pilot phase, hundreds of results have already been transferred to the Cartagenia BENCH
platform. This tremendously improves our capacity to compare common genetic elements
between patients with identical phenotypes," explains Dr. Gundula Thiel, Medical Director
of ATLAS Biolabs GmbH and head of a human genetic laboratory in Berlin, Germany.

Cartagenia
Cartagenia delivers diagnostic knowledge, software and database systems and services
to enable genetic labs and clinicians to perform clinically relevant genetic analyses quickly
and efficiently, allowing them to offer patients and carers high quality genetic
interpretation and counseling.
Cartagenia BENCH gives genetic labs and clinics the tools to optimize their analysis and
diagnostic offering, and accelerate their routine diagnostic workflow. With BENCH,
genetic labs and clinicians can perform clinically relevant genetic analyses faster, more
precisely and more cost-efficiently. Labs and clinics can share precious case material and
experience with total confidence, and use both public and internally built knowledge in
their diagnostic setting. With Cartagenia BENCH, the large number of findings from
genetic screens become interpretable and understandable. BENCH helps clinical
geneticists, lab technicians, and genetic counselors to manage, analyze, visualize and
interpret results from various genetic screening assays, from array CGH over locus-
specific screening to next generation sequencing platforms. For more information please
