LOS ANGELES, May 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Universal Detection Technology , a developer of early-warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bioterrorism and other infectious health threats, announced today that the technology contained in UDTT's bacterial spore monitoring (BSM) device will be presented at the 106th annual American Society for Microbiology Conference held in Orlando, Florida on May 24.
The presentation, which will include recent developments and test results, will be given by Mr. Pun To Yung, a Caltech bioengineering graduate student at the Life Detection and Sample Handling Technologies Group at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). Mr. Yung's research is being supervised by Dr. Adrian Ponce, inventor of UDTT's licensed spore detection technology. UDTT licensed the technology from Caltech in 2001 and has developed BSM with support from JPL. Development of BSM-2000, which is currently available for commercial sale, has been spearheaded Dr. Ponce. Initial prototype of BSM-2000 was peer reviewed in the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers' (IEEE) Engineering in Medicine and Biology Magazine.
