MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Arcturus Bioscience, Inc. announced today the appointment of its CEO and Chairman, Dr. Thomas M. Baer, as Consulting Professor in the Department of Applied Physics at Stanford University. Dr. Baer will continue to lead Arcturus Bioscience, Inc. as CEO and Chairman, in addition to his new role at Stanford University.
Dr. Baer will work closely with graduate students and faculty of Bio-X, Stanford's new program focused on interdisciplinary biosciences research. The goal of the program is to integrate ideas and methods embodied in engineering, computer science, physics, chemistry, and other fields and bring them to bear on important challenges in bioscience. By accelerating partnerships among these scientists and corporate partners, Bio-X aims to create fertile ground for discovery, invention and education.

Dr. Baer is co-founder of Arcturus Bioscience, Inc., which he established in 1996. Prior to Arcturus, Dr. Baer held positions as Vice President of Research at Biometric Imaging, and as a Research Scientist, Spectra-Physics Fellow, and Vice-President of Research at Spectra-Physics, Inc. Dr. Baer is a pioneer in many areas of biotechnology, laser development, and laser applications, and is listed as an inventor on more than 50 patents in these areas. He has been elected to the status of fellow of two major international scientific societies: The American Association for the Advancement of Science and The Optical Society of America.
