"We are very pleased to announce our partnership with Life Optics," said Karen Gilles Larson, president and chief executive officer of Synovis Life Technologies. "Synovis and Life Optics are both dedicated to providing surgeons with innovative technology that will help them achieve excellent patient outcomes. Varioscope products are a strong offering for Synovis MCA's customer base of microsurgeons in various specialties."

Christian Molnar, president of Life Optics Corporation, said, "For years, Life Optics has been earning a reputation for providing innovative solutions to surgeons worldwide. Synovis has solid customer relationships with surgeons, including microsurgeons, and is well positioned to distribute our products in the United States."

Varioscope optical systems combine miniaturized high-end microscopes with the freedom of movement of a head-mounted system. These systems offer variable magnification, autofocus and a sharp, crystal-clear 3D image. The optical system is far more advanced than a surgical loupe and allows the surgeon to move at any angle, unlike surgical microscopes.

Synovis MCA's primary product is the Coupler, a device used by microsurgeons in several specialties to connect extremely small arteries or veins, without sutures, quickly, easily and with consistently excellent results. Synovis is developing an advanced version of the Coupler, which, in addition to connecting vessels, is designed to detect blood flow and confirm initial and post-operative success of the vessel connection. A variation of the product is progressing through development for the sizeable cardiac and vascular markets.
