Rho to Sponsor 60th Anniversary Celebration for the Department of Biostatistics at University of North Carolina 10/9/2009 11:12:32 AM Chapel Hill, NC (Rho) October 9, 2009-- The UNC Chapel Hill Department of Biostatistics will host a series of celebrations for alumni and friends to commemorate its 60th anniversary on October 12-15, 2009. The celebrations will be preceded by a Festschrift, a collection of writings published in honor of the work of Professor Gary Koch. Rho is proud to sponsor a lunch on the afternoon ofMonday, October 12 which will celebrate Professor Koch's exceptional contributions through a series of lectures and reminiscences. Ron Helms, Chief Scientific Officer of Rho and Professor Emeritus at UNC said, “The UNC Department of Biostatistics is the largest, and one of the very best in the entire world. Dr. Gary Koch has been the Department’s ‘rock star’ statistician for many years, known throughout the world for his highly significant contributions to applied statistics and drug development. We at Rho are delighted to have had a long, productive, and close relationship with both the Department and Dr. Koch.” Continuing with lunches on Tuesday, October 13, through Thursday, October 15, UNC will observe the Department's anniversary with an exciting program of lectures on cutting-edge developments in theory and applications, updates on the current status and future of the Department’s undergraduate and graduate training programs, and reflections on the impact the Department has made on the field of biostatistics as well as on public health and medicine.
