ROCKVILLE, Md., Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Protiveris Inc., a bio-nanotechnology company commercializing bioMEMS technologies to facilitate protein research and the discovery of new pharmaceuticals, today announced the finalization of an agreement with UT-Battelle to acquire the worldwide commercial rights to proprietary sensor technologies. Developed by scientists at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), these sensor technologies are covered by several issued patents detailing utility across a broad range of applications. Protiveris will be applying these sensor technologies to microcantilever measurements of biomolecular interactions.
"We are extremely pleased to have acquired the commercial rights to these technologies and to be working closely with Oak Ridge National Laboratory on their commercial development," said Robert Menzi, Chief Operating Officer. "The addition of this license to the Protiveris intellectual property portfolio significantly strengthens our leadership position in bioMEMS applications."
Protiveris proprietary biochips utilize arrays of microcantilevers to perform advanced biological and chemical research. The company's patent pending biosensor system -- the VeriScan(TM) 3000 -- monitors and analyzes experiments performed on these biochips. Protiveris intends to work closely with the inventors at ORNL to speed the development and commercial use of the VeriScan 3000 system.
In September of this year, the Southeastern Region of the Federal Laboratory Consortium recognized Protiveris and ORNL's cooperative efforts by awarding them an Excellence in Technology Transfer Award.
