Description

At Agensys, we're changing tomorrow by moving oncology forward. We've developed a pipeline of novel therapeutic fully human monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) to treat solid tumors based on our own proprietary targets. We have discovered and validated a portfolio of clinically relevant targets in 14 different cancer types. Our pipeline includes therapeutic MAbs to multiple cancer indications that are at different stages of clinical and pre-clinical development.

Our parent company, Astellas Pharma US helps us shine. Together we are the bright spot in the pharmaceutical industry -- not just because of what we do, but in the way we do it.  If you are looking for a company where you can change a life, make a dream come true, and light the way for a better tomorrow, this is the place for you.

Astellas, and our Agensys subsidiary, offer a different kind of work culture.  A high standard of ethics is mandatory.  Quality is our pledge.  Diversity is valued.  Individual initiative is rewarded.   Astellas offers an environment where our employees can make a real difference.  To continue to change tomorrow, Astellas/Agensys must recruit the best and brightest in the industry.

Come, shine with us!

The Applied Molecular Biology Department is seeking a highly motivated scientist with strong background in molecular biology and protein sciences to lead the Molecular Engineering group.  The group is responsible for all aspects of genetic engineering to support Agensys' research efforts in antibody drug development for oncology.  The candidate will apply expertise in rational and computational engineering methods for enhancing antibody and protein functions.  In addition, the candidate will lead the efforts to develop constructs for supporting antibody drug development including immunization/screening, as well as target validation.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

The candidate will be leading a group with responsibilities including, but are not limited to: design and generation of constructs for the expression of therapeutic proteins such as monoclonal antibodies, antibody fragments, as well as non-antibody target proteins of various forms (targets with various epitope tags, fusion proteins or mutations); engineering antibodies to support antibody therapeutics development by enhancing and optimizing drug properties; applying rational protein design and combinatorial protein libraries for the identification of innovative antibody variants; performing high-throughput antibody sequence analysis.  In addition, the candidate will lead efforts to develop platform vectors for the rapid generation of expression constructs to support target discovery and validation such as shRNA and protein traps.

The candidate will serve as a technical expert in molecular engineering within the organization and provide support to therapeutic project needs.  He will be involved in interfacing with scientists within target and drug discovery research development areas, writing reports and timely communicating results to other members of multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a PhD in molecular biology, biotechnology, or related discipline with minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience.  The position requires hands on in-depth experience in molecular biology, antibody structure/function and extensive expertise in antibody/protein engineering.  The ideal candidate must have an established record of creative research in antibody therapeutics.  Experience with automation and high throughput screening is a plus.

Strong creativity and problem-solving skills are essential. Successful candidate will have excellent verbal and communication skills, demonstrate leadership and ability to work in a dynamic team environment.
