Job Description

Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (SPI) is currently searching for a VP, Patient Services & Support and Channel Management for the US office located in Rockville, Maryland. SPI is a global biopharmaceutical company focused on innovative research and development of proprietary drugs to treat gastrointestinal, ophthalmic and oncology-based inflammatory disorders. Sucampo has a marketed product - AMITIZA® - and a pipeline including lifecycle management and clinical development programs. Sucampo is headquartered in Rockville, Maryland, and has operations in Japan, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Job Summary

This position will lead US Commercial efforts and will be accountable for achieving revenue and patient acquisition goals. The US Commercial Head will accomplish goals and objectives by leading in-country sales, marketing market access, clinical specialist and diagnostic teams; directing all aspects of commercial activities; building and developing effective teams and ensuring cross function alignment. This position is also responsible for participating in the global planning in collaboration in collaboration with the Commercial and Medical teams.

Primary Responsibilities

•   Accountable for commercial goals including number of Patients identified and number of Patients on Therapy – and revenue
•   Drive Marketing and Sales execution
•   Collaborate with Regional Commercial Leads, Patient Services, and global functions to on market strategy to achieve revenue and commercial goals
•   Develop and implement in-country strategic and tactical business plan
•   Ensure strategic alignment and resource allocation across indication and within business unit
•   Lead US Sales Force, Marketing, Clinical Specialists, and Diagnostics teams
•   Collaborate with Patient Services
•   Build and manage effective teams (recruit, train, develop, etc.)
•   Department budget responsibility
•   Member of the Commercial Leadership Team
•   Ensure coordination with other country functions
•   Support Access (dependent on each country practice)
•   Oversee the development and implementation of incentive compensation plans with the compensation group


1.   Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA)
2.   Minimum of 15 years of Sales and Marketing experience in the biopharma industry
3.   A minimum of 7-8 years’ experience leading commercial operations activities
4.   Prior experience leading multiple teams in cross-functional environments
5.   Demonstrated experience managing budgets
6.   Proven leadership capabilities
7.   Demonstrated launch experience
8.   Key account negotiation skills
9.   Excellent interpersonal skills
10.   Excellent communication and presentation skills required
11.   Desired experience in orphan drugs or specialty markets
12.   Desired experience in relevant therapeutic areas
13.   Desired experience working in a multicultural or international environment
