Job Description

This is an attractive opportunity to join a rapidly expanding vaccine company which has the expertise, capabilities, and facilities to develop new vaccines and vaccine technologies from R&D, GMP manufacturing, and clinical development to licensure and commercial sales.  PaxVax is looking for a VP, Virology to lead innovative and entrepreneurial vaccine research, manage, lead, and develop Research and Development teams, and contribute to the development of PaxVax’s vaccine pipeline. This position will interact with other teams in R&D and in Technical Development and Technical Operations, and will closely partner with and report to the Chief Scientific Officer to assess additional vaccine opportunities, and further build and grow the organization.

Responsibilities
•   In partnership with the CSO and others on the the senior leadership team, identify new vaccine opportunities that are strategically aligned with corporate research and business objectives
•   Lead, develop, and manage Research and Development teams to characterize, assess and improve new and existing vaccine candidates and processes
•   Provide scientific input and advice for internal committees, and collaborate with other R&D related activities and existing vaccine projects in Technical Development.
•   Represent PaxVax externally at scientific meetings, advisory boards, and through high impact presentations, publications, and other scientific communications
•   Work with corporate and extramural attorneys to expand the company’s intellectual property portfolio
•   Identify relevant external sources of funding and submit grant and contract applications
•   Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and leverage external partnerships and interactions with academic, government, and industrial laboratories
•   Partner with PaxVax’s senior leadership team to further develop, shape, and execute the company’s growth strategy with the goal to create substantial value

Requirements

•   PhD / Post-doctoral experience ideally in an applicable field of virology
•   15+ years of experience in vaccine R&D
•   Experience in successfully managing, leading, and developing R&D teams and overseeing laboratory facilities
•   Expertise in infectious disease related biology, pathophysiology, virology and/or immunology
•   Scientific expertise in vaccines and vaccine processes proven by publications record and field recognition
•   Strong communication and leadership skills with experience in entrepreneurial, growing organizations
•   Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with many different internal and external constituencies
•   Scientific leader, strategic and conceptual thinker with passion for science and results
•   Proactively seeks out new ideas and engages diverse perspectives; able to introduce alternative thinking to influence and create strategic solutions
•   Ability to travel in the U.S. and Internationally
